“The Teacher” (working title) is a short documentary video about a monk at a Benedictine monastery in western Oregon who paints icons. His name is Brother Claude Lane – an interesting person and an old friend of ours. The piece is intended to reveal something about him as an artist and about religious art and iconography in general. The central image of the video is an icon he recently completed which features an African American man named Claude Newman who, in the early 1940's, claimed a miraculous conversion while awaiting execution on death row.

The project’s principle location photography is complete. We're currently assembling post-production materials and looking for an editor.
